Does PDF-eXPLODE work on a cloud platform?

ISSUE:

I am about to embark on a Cloud based project and PDF-eXPLODE is one of the softwares we were considering moving. I would like an explanation of whether it will work on our selected platform and would like some pointers we need to be aware of.

ANSWER:

PDF-EXPLODE Cloud Deployment

Overview

PDF-EXPLODE Version 4.1.14.32 (August 2024) is fully compatible with cloud platforms: AWS, Microsoft Azure (including AVD), and Google Cloud.

Supported Windows Operating Systems

Windows Server 2016
Windows Server 2019
Windows Server 2022

These Windows operating environments provide the necessary framework for the PDF virtual printer, COM interfaces, and file system operations required by PDF-EXPLODE.

Licensing Requirements

A Print Server licence is required for cloud deployments. Available options: 1, 3, 5, or 10 User licences.

Annual Support

We strongly encourage maintaining an active Annual Support Plan, which ensures:

  • Priority technical assistance

  • Access to the latest software releases at no additional cost

Client Deployments
Multiple clients are currently running PDF-EXPLODE on all major cloud platforms. Feedback indicates stable, reliable operation.

Technical Notes for IT Teams

  • Requires standard Windows administrative permissions for installation, licensing and configuring. Users require standard permissions

  • Installs a virtual PDF printer functioning identically to a local server

  • Can write output PDFs to any network or cloud-accessible location

  • Supports multi-user environments provided each user has PDFeXPLODE printer access

  • Testing - We can provide a temporary 45-day full Server License of PDF-eXPLODE Print Server for 1/3/5 or 10 Users at a fee of USD$150 which will include:
    • a temporary evaluation licence with full production functionality (but will expire after 45 days following implementation),
    • up to 3 hours of Zoom/Teams session discussions, and
    • online/email support during testing
    • Once the service is approved for Cut-Over, you can migrate your in-house perpetual Print Server license to the cloud server, replacing the temporary license

Configuration

It is best to follow the configuration steps used in an in-house installation.  Please follow this link: Step-By-Step instructions to a successful Version 4 configuration of PDF-eXPLODE

End-User Experience
Non-technical users continue to operate PDF-EXPLODE as usual:

  • Generate, split, combine, and email PDFs directly from the cloud

  • Nil or minor changes to workflow are required

Conclusion
PDF-EXPLODE is cloud-ready. With the correct Windows Server environment, a valid Print Server licence, and an active support plan, organizations can leverage cloud scalability while maintaining familiar PDF-EXPLODE functionality.
