PDF-eXPLODE won’t open at all; it displays an error 481 and I just can’t get to the Options menu

ISSUE:

Each time I click on either the Desktop shortcut or the installed folder PDF-eXPLODE EXE, I get an error which stall the program and will not allow me into the Options backend. The specific error is  Run-time error '481': Invalid Picture. How can I fix this issue?

ANSWER:

Generally, when opening PDF-eXPLODE Options from the PRINTER menu of the process queue, PDF-eXPLODE will validate all paths stored as Exploded PDF paths as well as any HTML message document content. Hence it is important to go through the following list of possible errors to be able to fix this problem. Review and/or fix the errors in this order of priority:

  1. As you cannot open PDF-eXPLODE Options, go to the [install folder]\INIS\%User% sub-folder and open pdfexplode.ini (configuration file) in Notepad and look for any folder path through the whole document, copy each path and paste it into File and Folder Explorer to validate it. If invalid, fix the path.
  2. If there is any HTML email message file path shown in the pdfexplode.ini, then verify that the path is valid (as in #1). If the HTML document shows any image file path, you will need to verify that only JPG, BMP or GIF are used and the image file is not greater that 96 DPI. To do this, right click on the file, select Properties and under the DETAILS tab, check the resolution DPI (dots per inch).
  3. If the previous points are not relevant, then this specific error message is a pointer to an issue on your Network or PC's Windows Temp path. There is insufficient disk space on the drive used for the Windows Temp directory or the Optional Work Drive. These paths are usually the same, and typically exist on the C: drive. However, one or both paths may exist on a different drive.  To find the Windows Temp directory or the Optional Work Drive, use the following steps to locate the Windows Temp Directory:
    • From the Desktop, right-click on My Computer, and then click Properties.
    • Click the Advanced tab, and then click the Environment Variables button.
    • Locate the TEMP variable in the User Variables section. The value listed is the Temp directory for the current user (%USERPROFILE%) C:\USERS\%User%
    • Go to the folder and delete or move the files to clear space. This should eliminate the error.
